This amazing offering from Ballast Point pours a deep brown, almost black, with slight ruby highlights. It has a healthy mocha colored head that manages to survive almost to the end of the beer. The aroma of espresso is butressed by creamy vanilla, rich chocolate and sweet roasted malt. Each sip is a tantalizing combination of rich vanilla beans up front that are swiftly followed by the supple sweetness of dark chocolate. In the middle it carries over into a strong coffee bite that leads into a satisfying lingering finish of vanilla and chocolate. It all does the amazing job of hiding the healthy 10% ABV. $$$
