Aged for 6 months in rum barrels, and then additionally over whole coffee beans, this Imperial Milk Stout pours black-as-night, with a fluffy, tan head. The first whiff produces roasty aromas reminiscent of coffee liquor, with cinnamon, and a subtle woodiness hanging around in the background. The roastiness of the nose gives way to a surprisingly sweet palate, with vanilla and hazlenut standing out. Some cinnamon comes through as well. The texture is as smooth and creamy as a white Russian, with a perfect balance between roast and malt in the finish. At 9.5% abv, this beer will put in your element.
