Description: | UNO, Ranger Creek Brewing and Distillings 1-year Anniversary beer, is their flagship OPA with some interesting twists. As a combined brewery and distillery, they decided to make their 1st anniversary beer a combination of their dual efforts, using a large portion of rye and aging it in new oak barrels, just as their .36 Bourbon does. The rye adds a spicy complexity to the malt backbone of the OPA recipe, bringing more texture to the citrus and spice of the American hops used, while the month spent in new oak barrels adds a tannic, woodsy expression and helps to bring the flavors and aromas all together. There is a hint of oxidation from the time spent in porous wood barrels, something you can find in all wood-aged beers, that helps draw out some earthy spice from the oak and rye adding, in this case, to the overall fruity, spicy, earthy character of this celebratory ale. Happy Birthday, Ranger Creek! | |
