> Barleywine Flight

Style:Barley Wine
Brewer:various

Country:United States
Container:Flight
ABV:12%
Description:A barleywine typically reaches an alcohol strength of 8 to 12% by volume. It is called a barley-wine because it can be as strong as wine; but since it is made from grain rather than fruit, it is, in fact, a beer. It is an ale with exaggerated levels of alcohol, malt flavor, and hops; a style which originated in England. Most barleywines range in color from amber to deep reddish-browns, all are rich and full-flavored. American versions are big in malt flavor and alcohol; there is also a monstrous serving of citrusy American hops so the overwhelming impression is of very bitter hoppiness, especially in younger brews.
