| Description: | December is a time of celebration, indulgence, giving, & opulence. We’re kicking off our Beerknurd Advent Calendar with a beer we believe embodies all that and more. Chimay Grande Réserve is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma and complex flavor of which can improve across the years if aged. It was first brewed as a Christmas beer by the monks of Scourmont Abbey in 1956. As with all authentic Trappist beers, it is still brewed under the supervision of the monks within the walls of the Abbey and all profits go to supporting the Monastery and other charitable causes. The beautiful warm, dark hues of the beer and it's compact light brown head put on a spectacular show. This beer is without a shadow of a doubt a match made in heaven between luscious fruity aromas from the yeast and delicious chocolate notes of the malt. It begins with a light sweet note before the creamy caramel transitions to a soft Mocha combined with an intense spicy taste, culminating in a delicious candied dark fruit finish. The overall flavor develops into a pleasant lingering aftertaste, triggering a subtle warm sensation perfect for the colder days. 9% ABV | |
