Description: | Known as the “Seed of the Universe,” this ancient super grain has thrived in West Africa for over 5,000 years, flourishing in arid environments where other crops struggle, regenerating the soil rather than stripping it and providing thousands of smallholder farmers with vital income.Brooklyn Brewery’s Brewmaster Garrett Oliver began brewing with the uniquely flavorful and nutritious Fonio grain in 2019, recognizing its potential in beer after being inspired by Senegalese Chef Pierre Thiam’s TED Talk on the ancient millet grain and his mission to bring underutilized African ingredients to global tables. This year, Fonio was a part of the United Nation’s declaration that 2023 is the “International Year of Millets.” Now, Brooklyn Brewery is proud to continue partnering with Yolélé to bring awareness of Fonio worldwide. This is the second beer the brewery has brewed with the ancient grain. Pours a slightly hazy sunshine yellow. Aromas of citrus peel and subtle hops. Flavor follows with light citrus, sweet grains and a subtle spicy finish. Crushable. 5%ABV | |
