Description: | Gotlandsdricka, meaning- Drink of the Good Land, is believed to have been the beer of the Vikings. This rendition of this ancient style is inspired by the traditional farmhouse ales once brewed on the island of Gotland off the coast of Sweden. Gotlandsdricka is brewed with birchwood smoked malt, juniper, sweet gale and rye. Pours a hazy pale straw color with very soft dense white head with moderate lacing. Nose is smoky with a strong phenol character not unreminiscsent of a peaty glass of Scotch. Briny and snoky with herbaceous notes of juniper, orange oil, charred oak and fresh cut grass. Mildly tart with a yeast driven funk on the finish. Extrememly esoteric but rewarding beer experience. A must try for fans of Scotch or Rauchbiers. |
