This beer is brewed in the style of Flanders Red, a famous Belgian style of sour ale. Unlike many representations of thsi style, Mantra ages Amour Rouge 100% in steel, rather than oak, for over a year. They add oak spirals to the vessels to lend a subtle oakiness reminiscent of the barrel-fermented versions. The tartness in this beer is mild and pleasant. Complex flavors of dark fruit, oak, vanilla, and a touch of funk make it interesting from the first sip to the last.
